Chief Communications Officer
South Carolina Baptist Convention
Location: Columbia, SC (on-site) | Status: Full-Time | Salary: Competitive | Deadline to Apply: July 15, 2026
About This Role
The South Carolina Baptist Convention is a family of 2,000 churches working together to advance the Great Commission. To do that well, they need a communications leader who can think strategically, lead a team, and help the Convention tell its story with clarity and purpose across every channel.

This is not a role for someone who only wants to check off tasks. It's a role for someone who wants to be a true strategic partner to senior leadership. The CCO will sit at the executive table, understand the full scope of the organization's mission and priorities, and build the communications infrastructure to advance them. If you've grown from communicator to strategist and you're ready to lead at the highest level in a faith-based, mission-driven organization, this role deserves your attention.

What You'll Lead
-
Develop and oversee a comprehensive communications strategy aligned with the Convention's Advance Strategy and Ministry Priorities
-
Lead brand management, digital marketing, content strategy, and creative direction across all channels
-
Serve as a public-facing spokesperson and prepare executive leadership for media and public communications
-
Supervise the Creative/Communications Team across creative, strategic, financial, and administrative functions
-
Partner with ministry department leaders on communications planning and execution
-
Oversee public policy advocacy communications

What We're Looking For
-
Ideally 10 years of communications experience, with some at the leadership level
-
Experience leading and managing a communications team, not just contributing to one
-
Proven ability to develop and oversee a multi-channel communications strategy
-
Exceptional written, verbal, and digital communication skills
-
Understanding of digital marketing, audience behavior, and emerging trends
-
A reputation for integrity, discretion, and sound judgment
-
Experience in a faith-based organization is preferred. However, we also believe there is a communications strategist sitting in a local SBC church right now who has the corporate communications experience that will translate beautifully into this role.

Faith Alignment
This role requires a deep personal commitment to the mission and theological values of the South Carolina Baptist Convention. Candidates will be asked to speak to their faith and alignment with SBC beliefs as part of the application process.

Compensation and Timeline
This is a full-time, exempt, on-site position based in Columbia, SC. Compensation and benefits are competitive for a senior communications leadership role in the faith-based sector. Salary details will be shared personally with every candidate who submits an application before any interviews or full screening happens.

-
Application deadline: July 15, 2026
-
Interviews with selected candidates: Late July and early August
-
Target start: Early fall 2026
